False
The carotid sinuses, located at the bifurcation of the main arteries on each side of your neck, are sensors for blood pressure and providing information to the brain, which controls your heart rate. When blood pressure increases, the carotid sinuses tell your brain to slow your heart rate. Artificial pressure on the neck, such as a tight hood, slows the heart. If you are exerting and your need for oxygen is high, a slowed heart rate can lead to fainting.
